May 31 - June 2, 2013 (Fri. - Sun.)
On an early weekend in June Door County is a perfect time to photograph wildflowers and landscapes. Typically the weather is mild, and the daylight hours are long. We will share images, receive instruction and photograph in the wonderful natural settings of Door County. It's a place where you can engage your imagination, stimulate your senses and kindle a passion for photography...a time of inspiration and personal growth...an opportunity to develop new skills and acquire new technical knowledge. The workshop setting is informal, relaxing, and fun!
Who should attend:
All levels of photography experience are welcomed. You should, however, be familiar with your equipment and its operation. The workshop does not cover theory, but instead emphasizes practical applications and techniques.
The indoor instruction and meals will be held at Björkelund, Marianne and Lou's vacation home in Sister Bay, which is conveniently located near natural areas, shoreline and wildflower habitats.
The workshop will run from 2:30 pm Friday through about 3pm Sunday. We begin Friday afternoon with a Welcome Reception at 2:30 pm, followed by image sharing, mini-lesson, dinner, a sunset shoot and pickup breakfast-to-go kits; Saturday meet at Open Hearth Lodge (depending on weather); 10:00 am return to Open Hearth Lodge or Björkelund to download and select images to share; 12n lunch, share some images; 1:30 - 4:30 pm afternoon shoot; 5 pm dinner at Björkelund; 6 pm evening/sunset shoot; Sunday meet at Open Hearth Lodge (depending on weather), shoot until 9:00 am; return to Lodge or Björkelund to download and select images to share; 11:00 am brunch followed by image sharing and closing. (Schedule is subject to change.)
I recommend that you use a digital camera, either SLR or Point & Shoot, with lens capabilities of close-up (macro), wide angle and some telephoto. A sturdy tripod is essential. If you are considering purchasing a tripod, please contact Lou for suggestions. Bring a camera bag to carry your equipment (Backpack style is handy, since we will be doing a little hiking). If you have a laptop, bring it for downloading and selecting images. Other recommended accessories include your camera's operation manual, extra batteries, extra memory cards for your camera, light diffuser & reflector (Lou will have some available for use), flashlight, lens cleaning cloth, blower to clean lenses, polarizing filter, cable release/remote control, sun screen/block, ground cloth &/or knee pads for macro work and boots for wet conditions. While we may not do a lot of flash photography, if you have a flash – bring it.
Come prepared for wet and dry conditions. For the weather forecast, check www.weather.com
before you leave home.
A block of single and double rooms have been reserved for you through April 30, 2013 at a special total rate of $150, plus tax, for two nights. You are responsible for booking your reservation.
A thought for consideration: Make a mini-vacation out of your trip to Door County and stay a couple extra days to photograph, shop, enjoy art galleries and the restaurants, marinas, countryside, state parks, etc., etc. Door County is enchanting!! See www.DoorCounty.com
. Open Hearth’s rate during the week is less than the weekend rate…just ask.
